Content of Course Instructional Material:

The certificate programmme content has been designed keeping in mind women's inequality at various levels.The programme content is intended to enhance women's ability to determine and exercise life options, influence decision making and claim control and management over crucial material and non-material resources. Therefore the instructional material focusses on:

  • the situation of women in India : 'how' & 'why' it is so against a legal backdrop
  • the need and process of SHG formation
  • development of women through SHGs : Microenterprises and Microcredit
  • sustenance and networking of SHGs

A learner's journal and trainer's manual will provide a practical experience to the learners. Such access to learning will help women counter their unequal context and improve the quality of their lives on several fronts.

 
 Target Group of Programme:
Target groups of the Certificate Programme comprise the Supervisory level Practitioners, Trainers and Implementers of Self Help Groups of Swaran Jayanti Gram Sva Rozgar Yojna (SJGSRY),Mahila Swasthya Sangh (MSS),Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK) etc, Non Government Organization's (NGO),and anyone else who is interested in either pursuing this course of study or work in an NGO in future or set up his/her own NGO.
 
 Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants should fulfill the following criteria :

  • Be above 18 years of age
  • Be fluent in reading and writing the language opted for the course of study.
 
 Duration for completion of Certificate Programme:
Minimum duration for completion of the Certificate Programme is six months. Sessions begin twice each year - January and July. Learners may take upto 2 years to complete the programme.
 
 Medium of Instruction:
To begin with, Hindi and English are the medium of instruction. At present, the programme is being adapted into other leading Regional Languages.
 
 Multimedia Approach to Learning:
The programme is worth sixteen credits.A tentative distribution of learning hours for a six month period is as follows:

 Fees/Freeships/Sponsorships:
  • The Certificate Programme fee is Rs.1000. A Demand Draft to be drawn in favour of IGNOU, New Delhi.
  • Freeships are available to the functionaries of any organisation which is implementing a programme financially supported by Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD/MHRD ), employees of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), Indira Mahila Yojana(IMY), Swa-Shakti Project, Support to Training and Employment Programmes, Central Social Welfare Board Programmes, Rashtriya Mahila Kosh(RMK),National Institute of Public Co-operation for Child Development(NIPCCD), National Council of Women(NCW) etc.
  • For the students not eligible for the freeship an incentive is being offered by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) which would reimburse the course fee of the first thousand candidates who compelete the programme successfully in the first attempt.
